A cool nights breeze flowed throughout the large building as the molded door opened and closed with a small click. A man walked in, his hair a lengthy silver going past his eyes as he walked, his coat went down to about his knees, swaying back and forth. Small hellos and handshakes were exchanged by the proprietor of the fine establishment with the customers. East of Eden, a place where all could gather, whether they were from the East, South, or West it didn't matter to Alphonse. Hell, they could even be on the police force as long as they didn't cause trouble.
I'm the center of the building was a circular bar and inside was where the alcoholic beverages were kept. Around that is a near fifty round tables. Nearly all were filled this particular night. The regulars had just started to come in, chitchatting with eachother as if they had known eachother their entire lives. Picking up a small drink he crossed the floor of the main room once more into the back. There were five more tables, all with a different card game. Smile on his face Alphonse sat at the Poker table, not to play, just to watch.
He did this for three hours or so, the numbers slowly drifting to none. When all were gone e dismissed his workers and left the back room. Only five of the fifty tables were full now, sitting down near a old record player, he turned it on an the building went quiet. The song rang throughout the place, it's melodic tone easing the night. It had taken quite some time to get a record player and he was proud of this achievement. Leaning his head against the back of the chair he had one ankle on his other knee and a arm on the table next to him holding up his glass. All he could do was smile. "What a pleasant night..."
